The State Board voted unanimously on April 24, 2024, to appoint Dr. Carey M. Wright as the Maryland State Superintendent of Schools for the term to begin July 1, 2024. Since October 23, 2023, Dr. Wright has served as the Interim State Superintendent of Schools. Dr. Wright will begin a full four-year term on July 1, 2024, and will receive a salary at an annual rate of $360,500.

Montgomery Parks announces the first public, outdoor beach tennis court in Montgomery County located at Nike Missile Local Park in Gaithersburg. A new adjustable net system will allow the sand court to accommodate both beach tennis and volleyball. Beach tennis combines elements of traditional tennis, badminton, and beach volleyball.
